Green Hydrogen as an Engine for Economic Development

The green hydrogen economy will be an engine for job creation, beginning with deployment and maintenance of infrastructure needed to support North and South Carolina’s industrial clean hydrogen end-users. Infrastructure investments could include: local storage and dispensing, modifications to existing industrial equipment for fuel switching, local green hydrogen liquefaction and storage capacity, system-level pipeline transportation, and mass-scale storage to balance seasonal demand. The Carolinas has the skilled workforce needed to meet the demands of a mass-scale green hydrogen economy.

With a growing energy crisis in Europe causing fuel shortages and skyrocketing costs, the Carolinas is also strategically positioned to become a gateway for exports of low-cost green hydrogen and its derivative fuels, supporting the global clean energy transition.
